Post Market Updates:Sensex closes in red; broader markets outperform

It was a day of some profit booking, with the markets closing on a flat note. Smart gains seen in the previous sessions were disrupted today, as the investors took profits off the table. The markets traded lower for most part of the day, however, indices showed smart recovery in the last one hour of trade. The Nifty managed to hold the 5900 mark at the close. Sustained buying in Midcap and Smallcap indices led the broader markets outperform the larger peers. BSE Midcap went up by 0.79% and BSE Smallcap rose by 1.38%.
Top gainers in Sensex : Sterlite Industries, Reliance Communications, TCS, Tata Motors and Cipla.
Top losers in Sensex : Tata Power, L&T, M&M, HUL and HDFC

The Sensex started the day 30 points higher at 19731 and soon touched the day?s high of 19770. Gains were limited, as the index turned negative amid volatile trade. Profit booking led the Sensex to hit the day?s low of 19524 in early afternoon session. In late trade, the index recovered smartly to close flat. The Sensex ended 15 points lower at 19687 and the Nifty closed at 5910, up by 2 points.
